do you have to worry about messing up the hydraulics,

No, but you might spill some of that beer! Recommend a good front end counter weight with a full load of Coors Light on the rear. Also, are you just using a gravity feed system and a hose for the suds?

You mention that you could overload it (the 30" scoop)...now for my ignorance. If it DOES get overloaded, do you have to worry about messing up the hydraulics, or will it just not lift?

I never had a problem lifting the load, but once it was up there - WHEELIES! My pile is at the bottem of a steep grade, and going up up was quite interesting/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif I have three suitcase weights on the front, but adding washer fluid to the front tires solved my problems. It sure is great to be able to steer, and I need every bit of my front end torque to keep grinning.

But, as I mentioned, when I solved the ballast problem, I got carried away trying to fill the scoop. I broke the tranny housing, but, with great TBN help, was able to put it back better'n new.

I think you'll find a 24" scoop to be almost the same price as a 30". I'd get the 30" - IMHO

Mike,

Thanks again for the follow up. I've got about 110 lbs with two old Ford suitcase weights on the front now, with a third I could put on, but haven't had the need for it yet. Not sure when enough is enough and one more might be too much.

Brett -- I've found that if I raise the 3pt enough, level it off with the top link, I can get a pretty good gravity feed off the "coors" can.../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif It empties faster than I can take care of it!

Thanks, I'm trying the same setup here with but with Bud. I figure by the Super Bowl I'll have all the kinks worked out and I can have a super party. bw

I sure like those YM186/7 size tractors. Here is a picture of our YM165D with the same tires you have. Take a look at the cut down automotive chains for traction in the snow. In the picture we are returning from up the mountain with a load of firewood. Although the chains are minimal, there is plenty of traction until the snow gets so deep that the tractor high centers.

Do you or anyone else know it that wider wheels/tire combination on your 165 will fit on my 1500D?

It wouldn't surprise me, but I don't know for sure. What size tires do you have on there now?

They are the rice tires. I'm not sure of the exact size and it's too dark to walk outside and look. I looked once and I think it was something like 6.5x16 front and 9X22 rear.

But I guess the real test would be the bolt pattern and off set for the wheels. Maybe one of the dealers knows if it would be a good swap for me. I think I would like a wider tire and wheel.

Roger_Scotty,

Thanks for the idea of cutting down auto tire chains -- based on what I've seen for tractor chains, that seems like a great alternative!

BTW, nice looking little FEL you've got there.

I was surprised to see a Yanmar at a yard sale this weekend. It was a YM187D with OEM MMM. It was in absolutely beautiful condition with huge turf tires and 866 hrs on the meter. The roll bar had been removed, but the sign said the roll bar and snow blade were included. Asking price was $6000.

Boy was I tempted...
