I let my Yanmar 2200 set up for about 5 yrs and when I got it out and got 'er going again the lift would not lower. It raised fine but would not come down. I tore into it and found the plunger on the control valve stuck. After working it loose and back n forth many times I put it back together. Worked great that summer but after it sitting up through the winter, come spring, same problem. I went back into it and freed up the same plunger. Now I have let it sit about 3 months and it will lower but not lift. Haven't been in it yet but what can I do to fix this so I don't have to keep going back into it every time it sits several months. I could tell by the way that it lowered slowly I had a problem developing. The adjustment valve on the front of the hydraulic tank had no effect on the lowering speed since it sat the last time.

Some of you Yanmar experts guide me in the right direction for a permanent fix.

Since it set up for 5 yrs, I drained all fluids and replaced them before I ever started it and it has not been in the rain any at all, stored inside since I got it going again. So dirty fluid/water is not the problem. Screen was cleaned also at the same time. Tractor has only been used 10 hrs or so since fluid change.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. When you have gone into it in the past has there been any evidence of rust or just what do you see in the area you freed up?

no rust and only sludge in the bottom of the tank which I cleaned out good the first time. Surprising how clean everything looks, but that same valve keeps sticking. I figured after I got it freed up, using it would move whatever was causing it to stick and it would get better, but it's not happening.

Also, I inspected screen but it had nothing in it to clean.

If you have replaced o-ring or orings, examined cylinder and piston on valve for burrs or roughness I don't know what else you could do.

See if hoye has a used one. There used parts of off parts tractors are usually 50% of the price of a new one. If i remember right $60 to $150 for a used valve, i really am not sure. But i would gladly pay $75-100 to not have to tear the valve apart everytime i wanted to use my tractor and it sat for more than a month. Like right now mine has not moved in a month and before that it longer than that.

My guess is the control valve is sticking. It stuck going up it surely can stick preventing it from comeing down. If I recall there is member on here (deepndirt) who repaired his it didn't seem that much to it. Check for burrs and replace the O-rings and or seals then worst case you have done all that you can and replace it if needed. I wouldn't under estimate yourself whats the worst case you will have to replace it. My bet you will be able to repair it. If I need to use my tractor I want it in working condition. I don't want to spend more time Ghetto Rigging it everytime I use then I need it for. :p

Not knowing what the housing looks like or the diameter of the valve in question or anything else for that matter I am just throwing this out so if I am waaay off just disregard it but a small dingleball hone run thru the bore wet several times may fix it. Dingleball hones can be bought from about 3/8" up to 10-12" if you look.

i would have though that was made up, "dingle ball hone"? I never heard that term, and dont know what one is but i can imagine.

never heard of a dingleball hone but I think I know exactly what you are talking about. On a trip to my local hydraulic shop I remember seeing and asking what a rack of them were back in their rebuild shop and the guy told me they used them to hone out cylinders. They had bristles with lil dingleballs on them. He didn't call them by name but I bet that's what they were.

Still open for ideas if anyone has any before I tear into it. Don't have time right now but will try to get to it later into next week.

Thanks for your help and suggestions guys.
