Yanmar 336d oil pan drain plug bolt/nylon gasket

It's a oil pan plug. Period ??? My father retired from ford. Dealer Rep. I worked on Multi Million dollar Graphic equipment. So what does all that have to do with a oil pan o-ring you say you read doesn't work?

Huh? I don't follow you or where you're coming from.

Part naming convention nomenclature are derived by ASME Y14.100, sub section Y14.38. It's still classified as a bolt, plug. Then follows the size coding.

It was done after what people called things due to the DoD involvement for updating the standard from 1997 and on wards. Thus, it's still a bolt. LOL

It's not like it didn't cross my mind they may have the wrong Bolt in the pan. Metric/ Standard thread is what we called them back in the day. Sure hope the Org. poster doesn't wait days to get a O-ring mailed and find out it has the wrong one. Or not the correct bolt..................

LOL

I showed how a person can just take their oil drain plug (bolt) with washer/gasket to AutoZone and get simple replacements there on the spot. This is something far better than mail order. ;)

BTW, I went thru the YM336 Parts Manual 3X and not once found a drain pan nor the plug! Why is this hard to locate? Did I miss it? Sections 1, 7, 9 & 11 should of had it.

See attached. :) Compliments of the Yanmar Tractor Owners Group.

the plug for the 336 has an o-ring groove, purpose is for not squashing the o-ring. https://fredricksequipment.com/product/drain-plug-oil-m10-dp-112/
I am lacking on credentials but do believe any of the Harbor Freight o-ring kits would be good for motor oil. All this just an opinion, please don't take it for fact. :D

 I too have that same H-F kit.

It says, Made from nitrile rubber, these durable metric O-rings resist oils, hydraulic fluid and water.

It 'should' be fine for the oil drain plug/bolt. However, it's not compatible with E10 thru E85 fuels because it would swell.

Here's O-Ring's West compatibility chart. It's very exhaustive. For our applications with Ag, it should be reliable. For my job, I need the data sheet links or PDFs showing standards and performance.

O-Ring West is one of my suppliers. They do have the data sheets. :)

Autoparts stores should carry this size easily.

I thought I had a new replacement plug. Just located it. It matches the numbers listed, 23491-120002 and is the same as in the photo. It certainly looks different than the original factory plug. The original is longer and has a 6 sided white "nylon" crush washer that went around the bolt head. I did not look when I put it back in but I am sure the plug has an O ring on it.
The old plug does not leak, the nylon washer went around enough to do its job in protecting the 0 ring from too much crush. It did not leak when I took it out and not now but I will replace it with the new one at some time. I do not plan to drain the oil to put in the new and then have to put the oil back in. The drain plug is protected enough under the pan that it is not an issue. I do not mow or run it through debris now, just use the tractor for the loader and 3 pt 750 Woods backhoe on it. Thanks for all the help.
