Yanmar AF 222 HST !!!!!

I bring the AF series in already but a tractor loader price for a used AF tractor is twice what a F or FX model with equal hours would cost. My current load has two AF33D's in it, one with a cab and one without. My margins though on those tractors suck. A D1500 2wd will make more money all day long. I put tractors like that in the container because I couldn’t find anything else to fill the spot.

From what I have seen new tractors in Japan cost substantially more than they do here.

There are dozens of reasons tractors are traded in. Older models are traded in due to the increasing tax you pay each year. The older the tractor the more tax you pay on it. At some point the yearly tax exceeds the yearly loan price of a new tractor. Late model trade ins from talking with the Yanmar dealer are from liquidation of a company or crop changes that require different equipment. If it isn’t to old the tax is still low enough for the tractor to be sold back into the Japanese market. Japanese farmers especially dairy farmers who put high hours on a tractor in short periods of time love late model used machines. Just like us it can save money over buying new. The dealers make more money selling to Japanese farmers than they make selling to export companies.

Are parts supply/ support as good on the newer tractors as they are on the older tractors , say, like 3110.

Just my opinion of course. But it seems to me, if having a new Yanmar, instead of a 20 year old one. One could do better buying a 790 John Deere, as it is a new Yanmar, in most ways. And the price wouldn't be all that much more, if any, and parts would be easy to get. To me, new isn't that important, as long as its good.

Parts are good but like all newer tractors they are expensive. I like simplicity and reliability so I favor older 2cyl models. One nice thing about the AF models is an off camber front end. When you steer the tires tilt toward the rear, seems to almost pivot on one rear tire but eats the outside tread quicker.

Buck,

Thank you very much for your explanations. I did not about this increasing tax on used tractors in Japan. Your commercial position is the same as French dealers's one . They don't like to import newer models as they win less on their trade. I understand of course this behaviour but seen from the customer side it is as sad as if you see a new toy in a shop and cannot buy it....

One more thing I think it is important for users to know that Yanmar do make modern tractors just as JD or other brands (with ROPS, HST, etc...) and that the models imported in Europe or in US are "oldies" or like Japanese people says "medieval time tractors"..... Funny no ?
