I just ran across this Yanmar belly mower on ebay if anyone is ineterested. It is driven from the rear PTO so it wouldn't be too difficult to rig it up to work on a grey market machine.

I could be wrong, but I would think that there should be some way to make it float. Would appear to be missing hardware from the front of the unit.

Ducksjunk,

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at it, but it appears that it hooks up to your 3PH. The picture that shows you the front of the gear box has a PTO shaft and the square tubing holding the mower looks pretty substantial, but I would kind of scared about scalping the whole yard if I mowed with it. You had better make sure your sway chains for the 3PH are tight also.

Great,

I would give it a shot for free! But I think I will stick with the 5' finish mower for now. At least I don't scalp the grass with it.

I have one of these that I just bought. It is the 48" version and mounts on the 3ph and is belt driven from the gearbox to the blades. The height is set using chains from the deck to the tractor, about the middle of the engine. I plan to add a pair of large caster wheels to the front and a roller on the back.

These were made by Continental-Belton in the 80's and early 90s. The last one I saw, before mine was on a small Mitsubishi.

I wish mine was a 60", but I gave less than twice the opening bid for this one so I'm happy. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As of a year or so ago you could still buy these from Continental Belton, somewhere around $1900 new (last years price). There is a front wheel kit that is an option. The front is held up by chains that hook on the frame of the tractor. We sold a used one on ebay last winter for $500
The local College uses one here regularly. The 2 big downsides to them is they don't lift very high and they are a pain to remove/install.

Actually, I bought mine because it is the easiest belly mower I've ever seen to mount and dismount. Just drive over the mower, no dragging and tugging to get it under the tractor, put in the 3ph pins, mower is light enought to move a few inches by hand, plug the PTO shaft on the PTO, lift, hook up the chains.

3-5 minutes.

No belts or tensioning to deal with, just go mow.

Unhooking, just reverse the process and drive off.

I just realized that I said "less than twice the opening bid", I meant 'less (actually WAY less) than Half". That's why I'm happy.
