Yanmar 2500, diesel
My name is Texas John,
I live on the Texas ,Louisiana border on 2 arches. My son bought me a Yanmar 2500 diesel tractor with bush hog and a Koyker bucket. This is my first tractor and first diesel. I had to do a lot of research to learn how to drive it and operate it properly.
I know a lot of you are going to tell me to buy this book or that book. Living on SS I can't afford the price of most of the books I found on line. I was able to get a copy of Yanmar Diesel Tractor Operational Manual.
I spent the last 2 + hours reading through a lot of information on this site and enjoyed and learned from it.
Please do not send me any advertizements or I will block your e-mail. But any thing you have to suggest I am willing to listen and learn.
Thanks to all.

The Gear Select on the PTO. isn't very user friendly until you get use to it. 1st.Gear 540 is the US. standard.Hopefully the Labels are still there? Throttle Set is opposite. Forward is slower Backwards is faster. The decompression is a good thing to check up on in your Manual. You should have a pull knob to engage it. Keep your Fluids changed and it will probly last you YRS. Posted 1/08 and not vey many Replies hope you see that it was moved....

ym2500_JPG.jpgA5964.JPGWelcome to the Yanmar forum Texas John. :welcome: I live in the Gilmer area. Your 2500 is very similar to the John Deere 850.

I have a YM 2000, I bought it in 2001, from Fredricks over in Hartselle, AL. All I have done to my tractor is change oil &air / filter. Last year I just changed the fuel filter. Use the same basic maintenance for your tractor as your car or truck. The only really major work I've had to do is take radiator off and have it roded out, I took it to a local radiator shop, I didn't tell what it was off of....they told me! Hoye tractor supply in Texas is outstanding in ordering parts, they have an awesome web site. This tractor will give you good service. They are tough, dependable tractors. This forum TBN, has a ton of information from a vast number of very knowledgeable do-it-yourselfers, mechanics, and so on. When asked a question, you will be amazed at the response that will be received. Best wishes, Take care.

Winston 1,
thank you. I know it is called a Chinese John Deer and they make most of the parts for John Deer but never knew which Model. Thank you.
I am new to tractors and had to go on line to even drive it.
Still finding out about how to use the hog. What speed to put the hog in, what speed to put tractor in. I did get a Operational Manual that is a big help but much easier to learn when someone tell you about it.
Thanks again. I will write that in the manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did get a manual.

Just found out that all the post on this forum were for me. I am still learning how to use this site. And they say you can't teach a old dog new tricks. Well this old dog ,69 ,I would have been 70 but was sick a year, is still learning and is still having fun doing it.
THANKS TO ALL.
John

These grey market Yanmars have multi speed pto's. Your 2500 has 542, 685, 1005, 1268rpm. These are at 2200 + engine rpm. You want to be careful not to run a rotary mower or any pto powered equipment to fast. It can be a hazard. Most all American implements are made to be run at 540rpm. One exception that can run faster is tillers. I sometimes run mine at a higher speed to get better pulverization of the ground.

Yes I can see that in my Manual. Forgot to mention that I got it from Hoye Tractor.
Right now at least all I have is a bush hog and a bucket on the front.
I do have a question about the bucket. The hyd system has no quick disconnects. If I ever want to change front attachments how would I do that ?
FIY this Saturday the Lawler auction has a 1-3PT HITCH POSTHOLE AUGER, attachment in case you are interested. I have a gas "earquake" that I use when I need it but if it goes cheap enough I just might bid.
The site is lawlerauction.hibid.com. It is at 7781 Highway 1 North, Shreveport, LA 71107. The lot number is 257.

Thanks again for everything.
