I have a JD322 L&G that I'm changing the rear engine seal. It has a Yanmar engine. I have the old seal out and have two questions on installing the new seal.

The seal is encased in rubber.

I was wondering if I should put any gasket sealer around it where it presses in? Didn't appear to have any on the old one.

Also, what might be the best thing to use in pressing it back in? Since the seal has a rubber coating I don't want to damage it while installing it.

You shouldn't need any sealer, I usually just put a lite film of clean oil on the seal and press it in.

I use a socket slightly slmaller than the outer diameter of the seal to drive it in. Make sure it goes in evenly. You can use a dead blow hammer if you don't want to ding up your socket. You can also use a section of pipe cut square and de burred.
