Brent is right, big difference between finish and ruff cut. King Kutter will tell you that the smallest PTO hp they recommend is 25 on a 5' ruff cut. That is not because a 1500 doesn’t have the power it is because the shear pin on the mower is bigger and stronger than the PTO gears. I fix a lot of broken PTO housings/gears because of that. Remember the sooner you get the job done on the tractor the sooner you have to go into the house and nothing good can come of that, hehe. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I have never broken a shear bolt but I have stalled the engine out more than once. Maybe I need some grade 0 shear pins./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Don't laugh, but I use aluminum shear hardware. Havn't experienced any real problems doing it that way.
I don't mind buying a 5$ box of aluminum bolts, and replacing them 1.5 times as fast as steel... but it has got to be easier on the pto ...
