It is THE factor. Most people involved intimately with this market know that Yanmar is a family owned (i.e., NOT a publicly held) company....no stock traded publicly, no accountability outside the family, and as a result quite capable of making decisions based on principle, beliefs, or even whims. The head of the family had many times made it clear that he (and presumably others involved in business operations) had nothing but disdain for the litigiousness of our society. Personally I concur with him. Their construction equipment, while being marketed under the Yanmar name, is imported and distributed by a US company, providing an international layer against suits in the US. The tractors are insulated first by the new corp. created to market them, and second by mtd or whoever owns cub these days, again distancing Yanmar in Japan by several layers.Kays Supply said:I was told years ago ,by an importer that went to Japan personally to get tractors, that Yanmar wouldn't sell direct to The US because of all the law suits against manufactures. At least it is a factor.
