Re: Yanmar "hammer" at low RPM solution

I looked at the Power Service additives at the store yesterday and could not figure out what the major differences were between the white bottle and the gray bottle.

They were the exact same price and claimed to do basically the same thing, so I ended up buying the grey bottle because it said it raised the cetene (sp?) numbers a bit more.

Should I stick with the grey bottle, or is there a good reason to run the white bottle stuff thru my aged, used, and abused 1300 Yannie? (Which actually starts and runs quite well, though I doubt it has ever spent a night under a roof, and is showing 970 hrs though could easily be 1970, 2970, or for that matter 3970.....)

Inquiring minds want to know! ;)

Re: Yanmar "hammer" at low RPM solution

white bottle is what the guy on here say is better for winter. I like you could not figure out the difference so i went with grey. As we both live here in the south i doubt we will ever see much if any fuel gelling so i dont think you need to worry. I live right across the lake from Linconton, GA we had ice in mudholes for a solid week this winter and no gelling from the tractor and strt right up down into the twenties so i dont think we need to worry. We had like three days where the mournings were in the teens and the rest of the week were low twenties, that could spell. Oh dont forget the 4'' blizard this yr either.

Dang Linconton Nate.
We have a RV. Keep it at the 20 bridge in the Summer. Sold my Ranger haven't been able to replace it (Yet) after a mishap last year. The wifey wants a pontoon you now what they say if it's there hard to keep out of it and She is Tired of me doing wonders to Her Hair :p i've kind of been looking that way also. Was just Talking to Ga.pawn It's starting to warm up and was just thinking about the Lake.

Ga.pawn If you haven't a good thing to do is change the Fuel Filter and Air Cleaner. That would be the first things to keep up with and clean.

Re: Yanmar "hammer" at low RPM solution

Either bottle....grey or white.....is OK to use. Grey(Kleen) is more concentrated and has more detergent and lubricity additives. OK to run year round. White (Supplement) has anti-gel and is good for winter months if you live is cold climates. I spoke to the company.......if you are just trying to clean up your engine a bit.....it's OK to double the dosage. I this this for a couple of tanks......now just add regular amount. Seems to have helped my engine a bit. Take a look at Power Service's web site if you need more info.

Thanks for the heads up! I paid $7 for enough to do 100 gals. I was wondering today if it would hurt anything to "thicken the mix" a bit. As cheap as it is, doubling the dose is not expensive.

I was out there tonight mowing the back yard. (approx 1/12 acre......errrr tiny) and the fumes from the exhaust were a bit daunting. <YUK> Seems they were always in my face.

I'm hoping this stuff will kill the hammering, as well as cleaning up my exhaust a bit. So far I'm not impressed...... but I just today put approx. 2 oz into what I believe to be ~about~ a 5 gal. tank (model 1300) and have only run it for about an hour and a half, so it really hasn't had time to do anything, yet.....

Hoping for the best!

Re: Yanmar "hammer" at low RPM solution

It is a 30 yr old deisel and will always have an exhaust smell, your weedeater does and so does your lawn mover. The only reason your moden truck or car dosent is that its so choked down with $5000 worth or crap that they engineer to help with the emmisions, so it reduces the smell.

Re: Yanmar "hammer" at low RPM solution

Yea....I agree....you'll always have some diesel smell. I can tell you......it took a couple of tanks......but I really do feel my 186D starts better and has less hammering than before I used this product. The difference isn't hugh.....but it's there. The stuff isn't expensive.....a bottle lasts a long time. I am going to continue to use it.

Re: Yanmar "hammer" at low RPM solution

Heck, the bottle I bought for $7 claims to be good for 100 gallons. So if I double up for the whole bottle it'll still go 50 gallons. And a gallon lasts how long in a little 15 hp engine at ~2k~ rpm, under no load????

I am sure that this stuff is NOT going to be an instant cure-all. I'm anxious to see how things develop over the next several tankfuls. Which, unfortunately, will take a loooooong time at the rate I'm getting free time of late..... <deep sigh> :(
