Yanmar FX20D
I have a Yanmar FX20D that has about 870 hours on it. I hear a howling noise coming from the front of the tractor. It seems to do it going either forward or reverse. All the fluids are OK and I am at a loss.

Any ideas?

Could be any number of things. Alternator, water pump, hudraulic pump. injector pump, air intake. With the engine running and the tractor out of gear open the hood and try to determing the location of the moise. Sometimes a length of pvc pipe about 2ft long held to one ear and pointed toward the location of a noise can help locate it more accurately.

Thank you for the reply... seems the 4wd drive shaft tube was crushed. I crawled under there and straightened it out and all is well. Whew! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It happens when they load or unload the containers with a forklift, and they pick it up & bend the tube most of the time

Where can I get replacements? And how difficult is this part to replace?

I love it when that happems. When you find the noise and it is not inside something that looks expensive. You should be able to get the tube from a dealer in your area or from one of the suppliers on this board. A good one is at the top of the main page.

Why dont you try to repair the one you have, its an easy fix on such thin metal.
