It worked for me! US YM240 is preferable because you aren't shut out of US parts. Otherwise identical to YM2000.

353 hours doesn't mean anything. 3-digit hourmeter is just an oil change reminder. 1300 hours if you don't see much wear on pedals or other evidence of high hours. At near 40 years old the individual condition is what you need to appraise. 2300 hours is more likely, comparable to 80k miles on a modern car. Used, far from worn out.

You mentioned you have worked around diesel trucks so you likely have some instinct for excessive or wrong-color smoke, or hard starting. Just do a careful appraisal. $2400 is little enough that you can get out of it at what you paid, or more if you clean it up. Be sure all the gears work properly including hi/lo range. Brakes and electric are cheap if needed. Rear tires expensive. Check for bubbles in the radiator. (head gasket or head, repairable). Budget a few hundred $ for the unexpected such as no headlights or radiator needs rodding out, clean it up, enjoy it!

For myself I wouldn't be afraid to buy a $2400 Yanmar if no evident faults. Up to you whether it matches your application. I hope it looks a little less thrashed than mine.

California, i found a 1979 YANMAR YM240 for $2400.

that would be a tractor built for the US only correct?

Yanmar 240 Tractor. 353 hours. 2wd. Yanmar 1.1L 2-cyl diesel. 24hp. 8x2 gear trans.

anyway the hours are low and the price is cheaper, about half the price of the refurb. could be a better choice.

whatcha think?

That's probably 1000+ advertised hours or even 2000 + . That's a good price on the ym240 and yes that is the American model.

Did I hear you said that refurbished yanmar had a loader? If it did that's a steal at 4000. Even without a loader that's a little cheaper than they were selling for 10 years ago!!

I agree, tires is a common thing for this age tractors. The radiator needing attention is common for this age equipment and the head gaskets being blown is common, as most people don't keep their cooling system up or pay attention or maintain it and when it's not up to task they blow the head gasket when out bush hogging on a summer day when the radiator gets plugged with seeds and chafe from cutting (which these easily get the radiator covered in fluff).

A Fredricks YM2000 for $4k WITH loader? You would never match that quality/price buying anything else.

These things are like VW's and Jeeps, they will be supported for years. (... and maintained by enthusiast owners because they are so simple.)

thanks all, will respond later. off to the farm to play on the 'big equipment'.

found 2 of these usa Yanmars somewhat near. the sheet metal looks good and both are selling from a dealer.

no the refurb Does Not have a loader, but is very nice looking. too nice to run in the mud LOL.

anyway a Yanmar 240 for 2 grand perhaps the way to go on the low end. and my feet will be getting very wet with such a little beast.

I believe diesels over 25 HP are required to have the DPF. So, if you buy anything new, or something built the last couple yrs, It will most likely have the DPF

Reason I mention 25 hp is, I have a new diesel Z turn that is 21 HP and it doesn't have the DPF. A friend has a new 30, or 32 HP tractor and it has DPF.

DPF= head ache !

With Kubota 0% finance. Dealer wanted to charge me $200.00 ? for the paper work for 0% financing through Kubota. Dealer also said they (Kubota) would require insurance until the loan was paid off to protect their investment.

So, 0% really cost more than paying cash !

correct. the dealer told me it was about 27 hp, but yeah i would stay away from DPF having worked at a trucking company. seems to cause excess problems and expense.

insurance? haven't thought about that, seems like all the dealers are screaming 0%. JD has a sales event this weekend, going to be fun trying their stuff. i need a lawn tractor and it is nutz but JD does not put an oil change drain on their new tractors.

nope.

screw on an Easy Change filter with some oil in it they say. expensive and only changes one third the oil; of course you can mod that to make it work right.

so no, things are Not going in the right direction....again.

yeah, they all scream 0 % but when it came down to it. I was able to buy cheaper with cash VS their 0%. LOL.

don't know if I would buy one without being able to change the oil. JD can keep them.
Go buy a good used tractor and save thousands !
I bought a 2013 Kubota MX5100, HST, 4wd, loader with 380 HRS for 23K. No DPF either !

I kept my yanmar 3110D though

When I bought a new vehicle two yrs ago. I was able to buy it cheaper financing because the dealer got a kick back for financing vs paying cash.
So, I asked it there was a penalty for early pay off ? Nope !
I read the paper work cause I don't trust them. Sure enough, no penalty for paying off the loan early.
So, I finance the car, and make one payment in full the next month !
