Hi guys,
Would you say that the Yanmar Service Manual is worth the $50 price tag? I'm thinking I should buy one, but thought I'd ask...

I first bought the condensed I&T manual off Ebay to get the specs for valve adjustment etc. The I&T manual is excellent. It is intended for the experienced mechanic and in addition to specifications has the details for topics that are uniquely Yanmar. One example would be how to see if the Thermostart meets spec by testing it in a pan of boiling water. But if you don't do your own work then the Operation Manual should be all you need.

Later I bought the YM240 (YM2000) Service Manual. I found it is intended for the dealer and covers major repair that a typical owner would have done by a shop instead of doing at home. I look in it to satisfy my curiosity but I don't remember needing any project so complex that I had to look it up in the Service Manual before just doing it.

Buy the Service Manual if you break the tractor and need to do a major repair yourself. Before that, it's only nice to have, to understand how things work.

The Operation Manual covers issues like coolant change that are normally done by the owner. This plus the I&T manual (for specifications) should be sufficient to maintain a working tractor.

Its not worth 50 bucks if its cheap photo copy but thats my opinion.

Ive got one and its terrible I think anyway.

As a relatively new tractor owner.....I bought a 186D a little over a year ago.....I bought a parts manual and service manual from Hoye. I found the parts manual to be very valuable with all the diagrams. The service manual is good and helps explain how things work and contains some good adjustment and troubleshooting information. Looking back.......I refer to the parts manual much more than the service manual. If you can afford them....buy both. If you can afford one.....buy the parts manual. Yea they're copies but the manuals I bought are very good quality. :):)

What model do you have? There are some very generous people on this site. They have been known to copy pages that a new guy needs if you run into a problem. I have several manuals and will share info.

That's very kind of you. I have a YM1700. I'm not sure what the US model quivalent is -- these manuals are for the closest US equivalent model, right? I don't have any big repair I need to do right now but I was thinking I should check/adjust the valve clearances and I have a wheel bearing that probably needs to be replaced at some point.

I have used my parts book as much as I have used the service manual. Never would have thought that.

When I needed to replace the head gasket in my 146 the service manual was handy for the correct torque and sequence to torque the bolts.

Held off a long time before buying them but they have been worth the investment for me....

Plus if you take care of them....when you sell them, you can recoup most of the money you spent for them.

Just my 2 cents

I have a yanmar service manual. An original from the 80's or 90s on the ym240. I got it off ebay and maybe paid like $20 something for it. I agree with California on it.

I am pretty sure I have one for a 1700 or 2000. I think the specs are the same. Some one correct me if I am wrong. I'll check at the shop this week and get back.

im thinking there the same except the displacement of the engine, so yes.

It has been a while, but that is what I was thinking also.

Two cents worth - yes
Mine was a bound version - well worth the data it contains.

I bought a factory Yanmar service manual for my ym226D, and am pretty impressed with the clear service methods in it. Lots of pictures. It wasn't cheap, but it might pay for itself pretty quickly since there aren't any Yanmar dealers close to me. If something breaks, I'm pretty well stuck with having to fix it.

Hello fella's, I am brand new to the forum and was also wondering about the service manual. I just bought a YM2210 and had a few concerns and thought maybe I could find some information in the manual. My tractor seems to have a slight miss when I increase the throttle. Don't know if this is normal for this tractor. Kinda like a real quick "skip". Maybe I need to find a thread dealing with fuel systems. Don't want to reinvent the wheel. Maybe someone can tell me where to go. Thanks in advance.

:welcome: If the "skip" disappears as quickly as it comes I wouldn't worry about it. Not being there and hearing it I may be way off base. I am not sure which service manual you would get for your 2210. Service manuals are available only for the US sold tractors. You would get the one closest to your 2210. I would guess it would either be the 226 but probably the 276 manual. Someone here will most likely tell us which is correct. I just read an old thread where Aaron with Hoye stated although the 2210 has the largest 2 cylinder out there the 276 is still the closest manual overall even though it has a 3 cylinder. I am sending you a pm.

Welcome to the forum.

2210's engine is a slightly modified update of the 2-cylinder in YM240, a US model with its excellent US manuals still available. You might want to wait for an original edition to turn up on Ebay. New reprints are available, but the photos in these look like they got faxed or something, they aren't crystal-clear like the first edition manuals. Does anybody know if all the maintenance specs are identical between these two models?

Aside from the engine - 2210 is related to 240 but its larger, heavier, and has Powershift so some other manual would be closer.

Winston 1 was gracious enough to send me a PDF of his service manual. We'll have to see how close it comes to the 2T90. Some places have the manual but it's one of those "Add $20.00" to the regular price which would put is somewhere near $65.00 which is a little rich for me right now. In the process of building a new house and I needed the tractor for yard work cause I will have a 4 acre back yard. The front loader will come in handy. A wonderful man in Montgomery, AL sold me a brand new box blade and bush hog for $800.00 (bless his sole) and then turned around and gave me $20.00 back for gas.

Looking so forward to using this tractor to get my yard in order (once the house is built) and I thank you guys for all the help. I really appreciate it. I really do.

Evidently! Although my operations manual doesn't show a whole lot, I am willing to share it with those who need it. I think it's a little costly for the little info that it contains. Also have the parts cat but all descriptive text is Chinese. Only the part numbers, volts and bolt dimensions are in English.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the size nut and the torque on a yanmar 2000? I have a rear crank seal leaking and I don't no what size that nut is. Also I would like to no what torque to torque the nut back to If I ever get it off.
Thanks, Mike
