Yanmar tach

Ive got a ym3110 and the tach does not work. I have a tach off of a saild rail and its brand new so I was thinking about putting it on the tractor but didnt know where to start on a diesel motor since it does not have a coil to splice into. Any ideas?

The tach on your Yanmar is a mechanical tach with a drive cable (like a speedometer cable). More than likely, this cable is broken. A new one is available from Hoye tractor, is inexpensive, and easy to install. I would do this instead of trying to install an electrical tach. Also fixing the existing one keeps the hour meter working properly. The hour meter on these tractor are not hour for hour unless you are running the tractor at full pto rpm.

Mabye just a broken cable. You can follow the cable all the way to the tach

The cable might be ok and just need to be tightened. I had mine worked on a while back and the mechanic didn't have one end of the cable inserted correctly. The tach worked fine after I checked it.
