Man, that looks top-heavy! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
ROPS, seat belt and a tilt meter should be mandatory. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Been off the site for couple of days and my eyes bugged out when I was reading this.....of all the tractors out there I have to say Yanmar is the one that catches my eye the most

Heck I own 790 because it'a a Yanmar not because it's a J.D. The 790 replaced a tough as nailes YM187 that I trated like a red headed step childed and it allways came back for more. I couldn't bring myself to trade it in when I bought the 790 it just became a part of me and couldn't let it go.

Wow I need to get a life....sounded a little tractor consumed when I reread that.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I think it looks more top heavy than it really is. The undercarriage is pretty substantial and is the heaviest component of the whole tractor and it is down pretty low which keeps the center of gravity fairly low. This tractor is being designed for a specific application, narrow hilly vineyards. It will get a trial by fire during testing for sure by the vinyard workers. They are squishing a pretty powerful tractor into a 54" wide platform.
If this project goes through, the next tractor is going to be 48" wide. I will probably look even worse.
Here is photo of the operators area. Note the steering wheel instead of conventional crawler controls.

( The shop manager said he has been working with Yanmar for five years to develop a vineyard crawler tractor. )

Yanmar has been building crawler tractors for years. Maybe they want to tweak them to appeal to the vineyard owners, but I don't see much difference.

It sounds like the Yanmar people are actually listening to what the farmers want and making a custom vineyard tractor. I don't know what changes are being made to the tractor. If I get a chance, I will stop by and talk to the Shop manager and get more details.
