Update on this thread: I ended up purchasing the excavator and I got it running! Had to rebuild the engine, all the pistons were cracked between the compression rings. Had it bored out and new pistons and rings, rebuilt the injectors. Was missing the fuel injection pump. Bought used one off of eBay. Got the the engine running, had to adjust the pump timing. Once I got it running, I had to buy new aftermarket drive motors, tracks and one idler tensioner. Had to remove all the hoses for the drive motors, and clean them out of all dirt and contaminants. Had to get a bucket and fit it up to the boom. All in all It was a lot of work to get this running but I have been using it now for about a year and was well worth the time and effort! I have about $11000 into it.

Well, you have proved me wrong. You now have a good machine for a decent price invested. I'd have never thought it was possible. Congrats on a fine job.

A couple years back I picked up a 6500 hour KX121 mini X. ..I bought it for what I think was a steal ... It may only get 30-70 hours a year now and having it at my disposal is a nice feeling.

Tomtint: Yes It is a nice feeling to have a machine like that! Its a great labor savor to have for sure. I like fixing things and it is a very rewarding to take on a project like restoring this excavator to running condition, but it does take a lot to make it happen! Tools, know how and a lot of patients! In the end it was so worth it. Used prices for equipment these days makes it tough for the average working man to purchase equipment.

That one looks like it was used pretty hard. I have around $11000 in mine, but I got a rebuilt engine, new tracks, and new drive motors. Plus its a pretty tight machine as well. Its hard to find a good "cheap" excavator these days, they are like gold anymore. Everyone wants one.

"and a lot of patients!". so, your a Doctor?. many, maybe most, do struggle hard to pay off their medical School bills..

You did well to put it back together and now a have a nice little machine. I agree, these are like gold. I would love to find one, even with major repairs needed, to fix and use, but they are next to impossible to find less than $15K.
