Yanmar YM 276D 4WD Question

Hello, I am having trouble figuring out the 4WD mode. Am I correct that this Tractor isn't full time 4WD? The person I bought it from took it in on trade. He thought the 4WD is not full time. According to the manual it appears the shifter on the left side below the seat is for 2WD to 4WD. I'm still in 4WD in either position. Thanks for replies!

No it isn't full time 4wd unless you have the 4wd shift lever in 4 wd you shouldn't be in 4wd.
Unless, the shifter isn't actually moving internal parts to take it out of 4wd

If it is internal I'm glad it's in 4WD rather than 2WD. I'm not sure if I'm not doing something wrong with the method of switching. Should it shift into 4WD or 2WD in any position? Such as C, 1,2,3,? I'm new to this Yanmar so it may be driver era!

This is what you have. Not surprising, I could have been wrong earlier. It could be piin #25 sheared.

Thank you, I appreciate the reply. Is this something known to be a issue with the 276D? It doesn't look to hard to check. I tried shifting back and forth and it stays in 4WD. I didn't know if there is a method to disengage the 4WD that I'm not aware of.

I think that roll pin that connects the shifter to the shaft is known to break or come out.
Just look and see if the shaft is moving when you move the lever

Your labels of C, 1, 2, & 3 are speed ranges. C is for crawl. My YM2002D had the same labels. In C and 3rd gear, I can still walk faster at a comfortable walk pace. I basically never use that speed range. But including C, I have 3 forward gears in 4 speed ranges for 12 forward gears and 4 reverse speeds.

Now my 2wd/4wd selector is on the opposite side right next to the ‘hump’ of the transmission. It is very close to my left heel as I sit in the tractor.
When I got mine, it had been in 4wd for a long time and took some doing to get it to shift. I soaked the outside linkage down with penetrating oil several times. To get it to finally shift, I had to get the tractor warmed up a use a short cheater over the lever. The cheater I used bottomed out on the lever (I removed my knob) was probably only 3” longer than the lever. I did this while closely watching the external linkage. A helper would be useful but it can be done with out.
I think these get left in 4wd and kinda stick from lack of use as mine seems to not pull loads well in 2wd.
If I did have the need to be on asphalt and concrete, I probably would not have bothered with getting mine into 2wd mode.

Thank you again. I didn't have any help today but maybe tomorrow. My shifter is near my left heel also. The lever does move back and forth and seems to be working but it isn't disengaging the 4WD. I will try and look closer and see if things are linking in.
