Yanmar YM 276D 4WD Question

   / Yanmar YM 276D 4WD Question #11
Thank you again. I didn't have any help today but maybe tomorrow. My shifter is near my left heel also. The lever does move back and forth and seems to be working but it isn't disengaging the 4WD. I will try and look closer and see if things are linking in.

It should have a fair bit of travel at the knob. A rough guess would be 6” or more. There should be quite a bit of resistance also as it needs to move items inside the axle housing. Good luck with it.
Personally, if it had not been for need to travel on hard surfaces, I doubt I would have spent the time on my that I did to get it to shift between 2wd and 4wd.
Oh I forgot on the other post to say you should be able to have 2wd and 4wd in all gears in all ranges.

For a 4wd shifter that isn't broken: Jack up a front wheel to relieve the stress that makes it difficult to it get out of 4wd.

And Jeep says back up in a zig-zag pattern while tugging on the lever if you can't get it out of 4wd. (but I think that assumes a more robust linkage than we have).

Another question that comes to mind, is what does your hydro oil look like? Milky, heavy creamered coffee color? These would indicate moisture and could cause corrosion increasing difficulty in the internal shifting process. If it appears moisture is an issue, a fluid change is in order very soon.
