I would like some info on this model if I could. Maybe some
relationship to other models, size,parts availibility, and ruggedness. I answered an ad in a paper from a private owner,info I was gave was: bought in 1985, 5ft.mmm(with one bad spindle,(blades line strait across)),low output from alt.
$550.00 as is.

That would be a pretty good deal. Unless it has was outside since 1985 and it is rusted out, Iwouldn't be afraid of it. Make sure it starts easy and don't smoke and all the gears and ranges are working you have it made. Partssupport for the US Yanmars is exellent.

If the tractor runs and all the gears work - its a fantastic deal. The powershift is really nice. It is a very durable tractor, and if decently maintained should last another 20 years easily. It is the smallest powershift U.S. made yanmar, equipped with a 2T75 two cylinder diesel engine, 2WD. 1985 is probably about the right year. Even if the engine doesn't run too well, rebuiding one isn't terribly difficult. I've done it to a 2T72 engine for my YM1110D - I replaced all bearings, seals, and gaskets, as well as the piston rings, and lapped the valves. Check out my web page if you get a chance. I wouldn't be at all concerned about the alternator. It is very likely just the voltage regulator as this seems to be a common problem with the Yanmar tractors. At worst you may have to get the alternator re-wound as well as replacing the voltage regulator. The 5' MMM sounds interesting. I don't think I've ever seen one with the 3 spindles straight across. I wonder how they keep it from leaving strips of unmown grass between the blades. The only thing I've seen is the type that has the blades overlapping but timed so they don't hit each other. There almost has to be some blade overlap to not leave strips.
