Yard Prepped and Seeded - Just Before the Rain

You might want to go over it with a roller. Those little grooves don't look deep now but wait till you start mowing. It will ride like a washboard. I went over some of my land with a landscape rake and it looked very similar. I have to mow with the grooves or it beats me to death.

And the wrong rain will bury the seeds in the valleys, leaving strips of grass growing. That takes a couple years to go away.

Agreed, I finished my yard with a spike harrow and it took many years for mother nature to smooth it out.

I suppose it depends on the soil, but I had a different experience. While I agree that flatter and rolled is always better, I have prepped areas that looked like the OP's at the end of my prepping. One year later flat as a pancake and all areas filled in with grass.

As always, one can't let perfect be the enemy of good enough.

After the rain we just received on Friday, and again on Sunday the lines you saw in my pictures have vanished for the most part. With temps in the high 70's and low 80's this week with rain every other day, I am hoping to get some germination soon.

I don't know what a pulverizer is. Do you have any pics?

I've decided to wait until Fall to seed my new build area. I wasn't ready early enough. Afraid if we get another mid Summer drought it would all die.

Looks just like this but a 72''

I've never saw one being used or in person. But now I remember having saw a pic of one like the one you posted.

Does the soil need to be pretty dry??

Good luck with Kentucky 31. I cheaped out and seeded about 1/4 acre with it years ago. Every year I threaten to kill it and seed it like the rest of the yard with a bluegrass/red fescue mix. Just don't like the thick fast growing blades that need mowed every 3 days. Rest of yard is perfect. I think it belongs in a pasture.
