Pretty good comparison.

My first tractor was a new Kubota B7510HST with the LA302 FEL. Bought it in March 2005 from a local dealer who had sold that brand for 30 years. He sent a Christmas card with a gift coupon (got a nice desk lamp that I still use).

In Jan 2006 he sent a letter saying he was shutting down the business. The father who had started the business had passed away and the kids could not decide on staying in business or closing. Closing it was.

You rarely know the behind-the-scene story about a business so you make a choice and hope for the best. Fortunately the local JD dealer picked up the Kubota line in this instance.

My point is that dealers come and go as do manufacturers. Dealers pick up and drop lines depending on markets, pricing, rebates, quality of product and more. The current NH is not the same company as Ford and old parts are still difficult to get. Can't comment on Oliver. With my LS tractor, my dealer is a 4 hour drive away, but they stock a large variety of parts which I can next day via courier. Besides them, I can get parts from other LS dealers or in many cases (just not my tractor) rom my local NH dealer as LS builds the NH small tractors. Engine parts from any Mitsubishi dealer.

Same on my Dodge RAM diesels, since 1994 I have owned one and I buy engine parts Cummins, not Dodge. Although Dodge would have you believe that Cummins is not allowed to do this all I have to do is go to Cummins dealer with Engine Number and some other information on the engine tag. They don't care if it is a tractor, back hoe, or big rig truck. It just so happens that the knowledgeable people because of the volume of business happen to know some of the dodge specific parts and that is always useful. Just saying ; tractors are sold world wide and somewhere there is a parts source. It is not tied to the dealers. The companies have contracts with the dealers and they cannot promote, undersell and advertise back doors or even acknowledge they exist. So figuring out where to get parts is haphazard and somewhat chancy. Just have to dig do the research. That is one reason it is a good idea to stick with a brand you like because it is hard to know how all the different ones operate.

My point is they been here in the same building selling tractors since 1930.

our NH dealer picked up Kioti a few yrs ago. several on here have said their NH dealers also sell kioti, is this widespread?

All 3 New Holland dealers near me are stand alone except for one who carries Kubota too.

There was a John Deere dealer in my home town that was in business at end or WWII at least and my dad bought the 1950 John Deere model A that I grew up on. That dealer was my favorite haunt looking at the new tractors every year and just soaking up all the promos, they had a John Deere day where a movie was shown with free popcorn and hot dogs and it was a family event for many in the community. I grew up and joined the navy then went to work for a major corporation but came home often and each visit usually included some seat time and a visit to the John Dealer to work on the next tractor purchase. So from 1945 on through a couple of changes of generations this business flourished as a John Deere Dealer. My dad passed many years ago but as I drove through my hometown I would see the John Deere dealer and the new green stuff on the lot. Last summer I decided to drop in for a look as some implements for working the old place at home and It was all LS. Blue everywhere. No John Deere sign and no dealer any where near. I intend to try to catch the new owners and get the story on the switch but that day the owners were not there and only some help were manning the place.

As well as John Deere is doing (and Green tractors all over that county for generations) I just never expected that dealer to go out of the John Deere business.

I remember not long ago hearing about JD pushing some dealers out and others having to join together to keep in the business with the green machines. Not exactly sure what it was all about but I know of two dealerships that had to sell out to an other dealership or switch brands. They both sold out and retired.
Does anyone know exactly what JD was doing and why?
