Just goes to prove that we need more idiot proofing added to our cars to drive up the weight which decreases the MPG and increases the cost, and just ignore the fact that we need a way to weed out the unsafe drivers on the road.

New cars are A LOT safer. I shudder to think what would happen if cell phones had been invented before the advent of auto transmissions, power steering, power brakes, etc. Now, they're so easy to drive and dummy-proof that idiots can drive around yakking on their phones and some even text messaging.

SUVs took off. One reason they did so is they handle so much better than the baby carriage-like machines called US cars up until about 1980. They still are a long way off for emergency handling vs. real cars.

If I were you, I would go to the town and tell them that corner needs a guardrail before someone gets killed. If they miss that pole, they will come barrelling through your front yard.

I bet the power company would chip in just to save their poles.:D

If it were my place & the town didn't agree with the guardrail idea, I'd be thinking about some landscaping that involved rocks.

I've had one drunk driver on my lawn and that's one too many. You've had two now...

As far as I know, the driver's insurance is billed for the cost of replacing poles, repairing guardrails, etc.

Mind if I come park my 88 chevy pickup in front of that pole for a month or 2? I could use a new truck :)

Luckily, the ditch slows them down pretty much before they hit the pole and the pole stops them from coming into my yard. But if they miss the pole I have a couple of nice size trees that will stop them before they hit my house which sits back from the road about 300 feet.

However, I am very cautious when I go get my mail because my mailbox has been run over 4 times in the last 4 years but the ditch stopped them 3 out of the 4 times and the fire hydrant stopped the other one.;)

Instead of putting reflectors on this new pole, I'm putting on a bullseye.:)

Unless you were driving a train, you wouldn't win that one. Even in my "safest car in the world" Volvo I'd be dead, but my family would have $1M to grieve with. At least I think Volvo still pays out upon the death of anyone in one of those cars.

Yes, sadly, those kids got what was coming to them.

Assuming that whoever was in that truck died, what could they have possibly done to deserve that.

You need tank traps Tallyho8. As for the Tata Nano, it can serve as a coffin should you be killed in the thing as it will no doubt be the same size or less as a coffin once a Peterbilt runs over it.

If it meets European regulations, I can see the Nano taking off in Europe with its high gas prices, high car prices, narrow streets, and limited parking. That's why Smart Cars sell over there.

Would I want a Nano? No; because I doubt I could fit into that roller skate with an engine very well. That's why I like my F-250, plenty of room in the cab.
