Yes it does unless you cut it before it heads out, especially with an annual. When grass heads out it will go dormant if it is perennial and the nutrients will go down to the roots. If it's cut it will start to grow again. If it's an annual grass it will just die when it heads out. On the perennial grass the longer it goes and the more the seeds develop the less and less nutrients are left in the blades and stem.

That's a fair price in S. New England. You'll never see 1.50 a bail unless you are willing to travel a ways into NY.
