Price Check Yet another JD790 pricing thread...

Some dealers will put a high price out right away and not take anyting less... my closest dealer was that way and I went 30 miles more and got 10% off what the first dealer said was rock bottom and got the tires filled too.

My set up came in at just over 17K including 10% sale tax - which made me happy after leaving the first dealer a little miffed.

It is a fine tractor and I am very happy with it after just hitting 50 hr. at just over 6 months old.....

I might add the first dealer was a single store (mom & pop) and the other was a BIG chain - hate to snubb the small man, but hey 1,700.00 is a LOT of green to keep in your pocket.

Yeah, definitely going to do a just a little more legwork to be sure - the first dealer certainly was nice enough and if thats what the market will bear...fair enough. RoyJackson mentioned the price for the used one seemed fair, but since he says the price at the other dealer for brand new was 'darned good', well...more checking required!

Since I very seldom get to spend this much money I am going through phases of worry about spending so much, and then phases of "...well, its a good enough price...just buy it and start getting some work done!..."

I guess I am spoiled...most of the time when I spend anything over a couple thousand I get at least some satisfaction from dickering, even if it is only symbolic...like throwing in a used spreader. Ahh....fun. ;)

Well, I stopped by the one dealership and they are pretty much firm at $14000 for the JD790 w/175 hours on it. Wouldn't even throw in a used spreader they had at $200 into the deal, so I guess they don't have any problem selling at that price.
Another "haggle" opportunity -- if they warranty it as new, and it's supposed to be in such cherry shape being "off lease", get them to finance it at zero percent, the way they're presently doing the new tractors. Tell 'em you'll even buy the spreader, if they'll throw that into the financing. When we bought our new 790, they just loaded everything (suitcase weights, beat ol' KK RC, delivery, etc.) onto the financing contract at zero percent for 36 months. Even their insurance (required for the financing) was cheaper than our own underwriter. Free money for three years, and if you pay it on time, a few brownie points on your credit score.

But jeepers, that's pretty cheapo that they wouldn't toss in a $200 spreader. I got my dealer to knock $100 off the KK, attach it, and include it with the delivery charge.
