Yet another Kioti injector pump failure.

I must check my hours too. Probably around 600 or so. Bought mine new in 2006 as well. Forever on my mind.

Just checked. 628 hours. (Scary)

Nothing to be scared about Alien.. the gears "usually" break at shut down.. SO, if u go out 1 day & it wont start, check all the usual things THEN remove the s/o solenoid & see if u can push the inj. pump control rack thru the sol. hole..
IF it wont move with a slight push from your finger.. the gear/gears have broken.. simple as that..
Nothing to get concerned about, it happens.. AT LEAST u know a fella thats only a key stroke away to help u out..

PumpGuy is correct: replacing broken IP control sleeves/gears is inexpensive and easy. It's also easy to do it wrong (dirt, contamination, wrong gear orientation, etc). The hard part is getting the IP out and back in. If the loader cannot be removed, expect a lot of bruises and a back ache. The hood must be removed or externally supported because the support bracket must come out (at least on mine). The intake injection hard lines and intake manifold must be removed; get a new intake manifold gasket before you start. Otherwise, review neches excellent writeup.

I believe the new gears are tougher because there are no failure reports after the 2008 model year. So I don't think you'll need to repeat the job unless you buy a whole "new" IP from Kioti stock (which could have older gears).

Thanks for the reassurance fellas. Yes, The loader in the way would be the biggest problem for me having a bad back. but, no pain, no gain. We'll see how long it lasts.
Cheap parts may be a problem here. We just don't have the resources you folks have.
The only failure I have had really has been the Transmission oil cooler which then soaked and destroyed the alternator. Gotta expect some breakdowns I guess.

If you can get the engine to run move the tractor to a relatively flat place (if needed) and remove the loader. Have you done that before?

The required parts are inexpensive (well under $100). This table identifies sources for IP parts.

The old style gears were not "cheap" so much as they were designed and qualified for the older shutoff solenoid, which was much easier on the gear teeth.

If you do this yourself, work slowly and carefully. Take cell phone photos along the way to assist with re-assembly. Keep all parts of the fuel system very clean; even tiny amounts of grit in the injectors or injection pump can do damage. Work under cover or have a tarp handy in case of rain and wind.

If I knew the teeth were complete around the entire gears I would do the job and rotate them before it happens but it seems not all gears are fully toothed.
As for removing the FEL. I haven't ever had to do that yet but it would be a simple job if the tractor was running no doubt.
Anyway, for now it is working fine so no need to panic... yet...
