Yikes! They\'re peeling out in my new driveway

Howdy all,

Last week I finally resurfaced part of my driveway. I put 1200 dollars worth of Limestone on it. I spent a couple hours with the backblade leveling the stone and making it "fan" out at the road. It looked very nice until this morning. I strolled down there to check the mail and I had peel out marks all over. Rocks were thrown in the grass and in the road. My Picasso effort is now for naught. Two weeks ago I saw a truck peel out at the end of my drive. I was too far away to do anything about it. I dont live in Hazzard county and they weren't driving the General Lee.

What's the best method to solve this problem? I thought about roofing tacks at the end of the drive but that may catch the mail carrier and anyone else coming to see us. Maybe drive some nails in boards so that they are easily removed?

What do you guys think?

How about a motion activated deer cam like the hunters use ?? a couple shots of their vehicles & a license # & then a call to the law is all it should take.

Are they pulling in the driveway or just skirting the area where it joins to the road.

I don't think I'd put tacks down but some big rocks properly placed could allow appropriate access but detract those who would do such a thing.

I guess they don't realize how many dings they're putting in their vehicle when they do this so you should get some satisfaction from that point.

I've had the same type of trouble. The only thing I've tried was to narrow the approach to my driveway. It's the 'fanning out' that you described that makes your driveway such a big easy target.
My driveway was so wide and well-groomed that it was the number one choice for semi's and cement trucks that needed to turn around. Well, now its more narrow, and will be even more so after a bit more work.
Any overt action that you take, such as using nails, will only set up a challenge for the vandals. They love it when you try to stop them.

This won't help...but, I look at these situations as "tests." In order to pass, I have to make sure I don't sink to their level. Rake the rocks, re-level the drive, and enjoy taking the high road. I tell myself to assume stupidity and incompetence before malice. I may be wrong, but my blood pressure is lower for the exercise.

Re: Yikes! They\'re peeling out in my new driveway

There arent many big rocks here in south Mississippi. That is not a bad idea to find some. Where can i get some motion deer cams? Maybe a large sporting store?

The problem with these yahoos is they are not just turning around. The are peeling out leaving rocks thrown in the road and the grass . Theres even skid marks on the road in front of my drive. I dont care if someone needs to turn around.

I knew someone one time who kept having their garbage cans vandalized. Some wahoo would ram the garbage cans and knock out all the trash everywhere. Garbage men dont pick up loose trash. This left the homeowner to pick it up. One day he filled his garbage cans with quick crete. He never had a problem with someone hitting his cans again.

Re: Yikes! They\'re peeling out in my new driveway

To clarify: I'm not greatlly concerned with folks turning around in my drive either. But, they never seem to stay on the paved portion. They go off the edge, crack my pavement, and sink into the turf with their tires. This all adds up to more work for me trying to keep my approach looking nice.

Re: Yikes! They\'re peeling out in my new driveway

Quick solution is to lay some telephone poles at the sides making the driveway narrower. Make sure that they are off the roadway and that will not cause a hazard if a car should just be pulling off the roadway. Pin them in place with rerod.
