Right at 4 gallons. I use Walmarts Super tech hydraulic/transmission fluid. I have used Travelers brand from Tractor Supply. Main thing is to use combination hydraulic/transmission fluid. I would advise cleaning your suction strainer at this time. Located here. Yanmar Tractor Parts: HYDRAULIC_SYSTEM

I see you are in Australia so I don't know about brands. Yanmar specified Universal Tractor Fluid which is available from several brands, and will be sold anywhere that has agricultural customers. The original UTF is labelled to meet Deere 'JD 303' specs and that is all you need in a moderate climate. There are also later, broader-temperature spec fluids available now but Yanmar doesn't mention those in their 1970's manuals.

Here, UTF is sold in 5 gallon pails. (~20 liters). Your YM1500 should take about 3/4 of that.

Ha i can use litres now, from a fellow Aussie. My 1500 WITH a loader took about 16 litres, no FEL i imagine it will take about 12 or so litres. Cheaper to buy 20L anyway. I used Peak Oils Hytrans and it has been good.

Hello everyone, not only new here, but brand new to tractor ownership. I have a Yanmar 1500 (1979) I just bought and am in the process of changing the fluids and was wondering about changing the oil in the gear box. Does it take standard 80/90 gear oil? Any advice is much appreciated
