YM 1601D Generator to Alternator Conversion

YM 1601D Generator to Alternator Conversion? Has anybody done this on the 1601D? I know on some of the smaller tractors if is hard to fit a alternator in the small space. Then the other question is how to wire the alternator. Go with the one wire alternator and run the hot wire to the battery. Go with the three wire, etc... There has got to be more to this.

called hoye today about several things and they said it could be done if i made brackets and kept the side cover off the tractor. the problems is the alternator will have to set out from the side of the motor to clear the u shape water hose. in other words to much work.

In that case - maybe a converting all the light bulbs to LED would free up enough capacity to run your accessories from the little OEM alternator. (15 amp ?) I've seen that alternative used in some other brands' forums.

Do you need more amps? I have the dynamo too and I added four 27 watt - 2 facing forward and two facing rear - LED lights. I almost never use the stock headlights. IIRC it uses 7-8 amps. I also use a 8k winch and it definitely uses a lot of amps and steals it from the battery but works fine for me

i was having voltage regulator problems again and i was looking at doing the one wire alternator.

I am installing a three wire mini alternator from db-electric on my YM2010 bought 3 belts longer but need a longer one so brought them back to Auto Zone and got 3 more longer. I will bring back the belts that I do not need. The brackets are not hard to make.
I do not know how to run the wires from the spade connectors, I know one goes to the battery for the sensor and the other goes to the key switch or light(does it make a difference). How to test to see witch spade connector does what?

it looks like it can not be done without much work. to small of a space to fit.

I bought an alternator to try but came to the same conclusions as the folks above, too much work.

I just got a couple LED floods on Amazon an plan to just eliminate my OEM headlights and use one LED up front, and one LED for a work light out back. My stock headlights are so dull and yellow it barely helps. Can't wait to see what the LEDs can do.

One other thought is we may be able to have our stock generators rewound to give a little more output.
