The only way to tell if the parts are not for the tractor is to look at the parts diagram as you take it apart and see of the parts are the same. If you find some other problem like missing parts or bent or broken items you have found your problem.

Thanks man. It does not appear to be a Vietnamese rebuild with crappy parts after investigation.

Just guessing here...Is it possible that one or both could be installed backward, are they thicker on one side than the other? if so, could have been reinstalled backwards at some point in the past,

Without a wider shot showing the entire assembly it's impossible to know, but I suspect either 1 or both of the center pin supports are installed backwards or are incorrect parts, probably causing most of the original play in your steering.

I took a look at the ones on my 1700 , it appears that both front and rear mount are identical, so it wouldn't make any difference if were reversed, Not sure of how the ym2000 are made though,
The only way mine would have 1 1/2 inch slack/play would be if the baxed part of the axle where the pin goes through were
badly worn,

Yep, wider shot needed, (of his tractor, not yours):).

Thanks everyone for the advice. I made it up to my farm this weekend and it turns out one of the bushings on the front axle pin support had worn out causing too much play and allowing the bolt in the rear axle pin support to work out... I replaced the bushing, bolted the supports back on, and presto. Tractor steers and moves great now. Thanks again.

Actually, as it happens I had the same thought you did when I saw the problem. On my ym 2000b the axle pin support on the front was placed so that the cap couldn't be fixed on the housing to hold the grease... (there was no space between the bushing and the end to tap in the little metal cap). I'm wondering if the previous owners either set the bushing wrong or bought a housing with an already set bushing and turned it backwards so that there the fitting couldn't be greased properly. In any event, problem solved and thanks for the help...

my cap was not on very well and i think it has fallen out and i see grease now when looking from the front. I keep it greased well to keep the crud pushed out..thanks for remining me to fix this!
