LMTC, I have to concur with Gizmo. I once loaded the tires on a 18" push mower. It was a real treat trying to keep all fours on the ground on the side of the bank in front of my house. So, I drained them to half full and wouldn't ya know, presto, much more stable, not to mention, easier to push. Hey, I don't work for Good Year, but I think my experience speaks for itself.

On another note...can somebody tell me what a valve stem is?

OK I have a question, FireStone web site said that in warm weather calcium-chloride may not be desired, can someone tell me why, on another post we talked about using washer fluid, just wondering why you would not use CC in warm weather, and how hot of weather do they call warm. valve stem is the black thing you put air in, what do you call it. sorry that sound like a smart a** answer, but its not at all. No I did not this is my first Yanmar ,but have had a lot of tractor's .had a 800 ford the man that had it before I did ,had water all the way to the top.if you got on the side of a hill the tire on the top would get lose.And it was not stable at all .Let the water out just left a little in the bottom of the tire.and it got stable and the tire would stay on the ground( I did turn a MT over about 30 years ago)

If the hill is of enough grade that you can gett he hi tire a little loose due to the wter weight top side of the axle.. IMHO.. it's an unsafe hill and should be backed up or traversed down... not side to side.

To the other poster asking about CACL in warm weather.. perhaps they were infering switching to plain non corosive water during non freezing times.. when you didn't need the AF properties of cacl... ??

This is a case where speed can kill. I used my Yanmar to clean up storm damaage and it is a slow go in downed trees and limbs. I found that the rotery cutter does a grat job on small linbs reducing then to a small pile of chips which can be taken care of with a root rake. But slow and easy. Use the low range when in heavy going. Gives time to stop before upsetting the machine.

You are correct. I always use the lower gears when pushing or moving debris. Think he was in a rush to move bigger logs to the road for Corp of Engs. to load. Should have been more careful.

MDM, so you are saying that I should translate your experience with a push mower to my 4x4 1800lbs tractor? C'mon? It's not acceptable or socially responsible to give this kinda advice. The laws of physics, propulsion dynamics, weight ratios etcs are so drastically different between the two it is just foolhard to try and say one can compare and then be related to the other (gee, are we talking with weights here, FEL, what is the pitch of the incline, etc.).

Gizmo, you mentioned something about "do the math". Hey, provide the equation and I'll compute it for you. Please be sure to include all relevant attributes and variables. Also, be sure to include density of fill for tires, incline, gravitational pull, balances on a given machine, etc. Lets keep the equation set for use for the original poster, since that alone will suffice as a decent answer.
