YM 2002 Price/Parts

I am looking at buying a YM2002 from a guy who picks them up from someone in Tenn. He is asking $4400.00 for the tractor which seems reasonable. It has 750 hours (not like some that have been reset) and looks in great shape, no leaks, runs great. I like the fact that it is in original shape and not all dolled up to fool someone. Very few rust spots, original paint looks good, I'll repaint maybe in a couple of years. He told me it is a 24HP and it has the power shift. Is this model easy to get parts for. It seems like a fairly newer model since it has the powershift. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I have confiscated a YM2002 from our lot to use around my house (don't tell Stan). I love it. The price really depends more on your location and the condition of the tractor than anything else. It sounds about right though. I too, prefer the original tractors to the "dolled up" tractors. I don't need a shiny paint job to till my garden. The only problem I see is- the first time you try your powershift you will be in for a nasty surprise. The 2002 is NOT a power shift tractor. You will need a 2020 to get the powershift. Parts are not a problem for almost any Yanmar.

Once again the dangers of buying from a guy who picks them up from someone. </font><font color="blue" class="small">( It seems like a fairly newer model since it has the powershift )</font> Powershift does not mean newer...it goes back into the late 70s with the 2210. Anyway, 2002 is not a powershift, and if your seller doesn't know that, he has little chance of helping you with any problem. 2002 is also smaller than the other 20 series models (2000, 2001, 2010, 2020) Original shape is better by far than "recon"....you have a much better chance of knowing what you are getting. But why pay the markup of "a guy who picks them up from someone" if he can't support you with parts, manuals, etc (and you didn't say he couldn't, so I realize am making an assumption here) when you could buy from a dealer who can and will support you? It's one thing to buy privately from an individual who owned/used the tractor and whose needs have changed. It's totally different to buy from someone who is turning a profit but has no means to support your use of the tractor. At a minimum, ask for customer references, including some a year old or more who are more likley to know how he responds to inquiries and problems.
