I've had several old Ford N series, now they were gas, over the years and they were smooth as silk compared to my Y240. When I first heard it, I was sure the main bearings were out of it and and a rod would come through the block any moment. 14 years on it has been the last tractor for my rural property I've ever had. The three cylinder I would think would be a little smoother (360 degree divided 3 = 120 degree throws vs 180 degree throws) but probably still bangy and thumpy. The other thing to be aware of it due to their "shakiness" under the hood everything needs to be tight or it loosens naturally over time. I would think the dealer would change all fluids and filters if asked. If not, worth doing yourself so you have a baseline to start from. Good luck with it
