I'm a "Hammerhead" too and can't get enough of that sound. Thats what 20:1 compression sounds like. The great thing about the 2cyl Yanmars though is their torque. If you don't feel a 1500 is physically too large for your needs then you should really look at that 1700B. The "B" models have a lot of improvements beyond the dashboard and extra foot room.
Don't worry if it's not as clean as the rest on the lot. if you go over it with a little light rubbing compound followed by some Meguires cleaner wax it will shine like new. You can't beat original paint for endurance. A 50-50 mix of kerosene and Wesly's whitewall cleaner will clean the engine and frame plus make the belts and hoses look new.
I picked up a 2000B closer to home and love it, now I'm looking for a 1100 or 1300 to keep it company.
