Has anyone ever put a hydraulic cylinder or something like that on the front of your tractor to lift/lower a blade or something like that?

I was thinking of somehow adding a blade to my tractor for snow removal this year, for snow, and was wondering about ideas on this, and if anyone has already added this and has plans and/or measurements to use.

Aric,
I mounted a 42" snow blade on my YM1301D. It is really too narrow for the tractor. A 48" would be just about right. It is a light weight blade made for a garden tractor. When mounted on the tractor it was made for, the mower deck linkage was used to raise and lower the blade. It has a long boom that runs under the tractor. The back end of the boom is welded to a U shaped piece of steel. The ends of the U shaped steel span about 12". My 1301D has a loader with a frame that runs back to the rear differential which is about 11" wide. I mounted the U shaped steel to this frame. I then used cable from the 3pt upper arms, around pulleys at the bottom of the differential, up to the front of the tractor, through 2 more pulleys and down to the boom just behind the blade. It works very well, and didn't require the use of more hydraulic cylinders.

I have heard of others using JD hydraulic blades mounted to their tractors of this size. I have access to one of these blades, and may try getting it mounted. Right now, I have the belly mower on my 1301D, and I think the front pto will probably interfer with the blade.

Good luck. Its a lot of fun putting this stuff together.

Here is a set up I made up using a electric/screw lift. This type lift system is on some models of lawn mowers to lift the decks.plows etc. I can easly lift the front end of the tractor up in order to dig. It has worked real will for me
