3-Point Hitch YM1401D 3-point lift problem

I just finished rebuilding my lift cylinder with new O-rings. I also drained and refilled the hydraulic fluid. After reassembling, the 3-point will only lift a couple of inches and then the lever returns toward the neutral position. The loader works fine, and cycling it up and down several times to purge any air that may be in the system did not help. Any tips or tricks to try before it comes apart again?

are you talking about the lever that you push to move the lift up & down that is moving to the netural position ? If so, can you hold the lever down & the 3 pt goes down / up ? If this is the case tighten the lever up or replace the friction washer. This is provided I'am undersranding what's going on .

Yes, I'm talking about the lever that raises and lowers the 3 point. I pull the lever back to raise it, it goes up a couple of inches and stops and the lever returns to the neutral position. It didn't have this problem before I rebuilt the cylinder. Next time I get a chance I'll recheck the fluid level and clean the strainer.

The 1401 lift has no detent. You hold it, it lifts. You let go, it stops.

Mine has three positions. You push it forward and it drops. You pull it back and it raises (you don't have to hold it). It stops when you put it into the middle position or when it is up all the way. I'll post a pic when I get a chance. Maybe it's different than most 1401s.

Well, maybe it's the 1510. Maybe it's a faded memory on my part. We haven't had a 1401 around in some time, but I was pretty sure the lift only raised when the lever was being held up....and when released it stopped working. Actually I suppose that would be a detent, as opposed to the typical setup wherein you pull the lever all the way up and the 3 pt. lifts to it's highest point. Sorry, it's late, I'm tired. Someone else with a 1401 will jump in hopefully.

If I remember

There is an adjusment nut that control the movement of the neutral position
It points to the back of the machine & it has a spring on it, its behind the handle for raising & lowering it.
Raise & lower it while you watch and you can figure out witch way to adjust it.
I dont have a 1401 here or I would post a picture

From Ernie's description it is exactly like mine on the 1510D. With the positioning device with a spring and a sliding lock. I do not have a picture either, but can get one this morning (for me). My question would be will it continue to lift if the lever is held in the raise position, or will it stop. If it stops because it pulls the lever forward to neutral, then the adjustment is off. Try sliding that adjustment control forward an inch or so and see what that does.

There should be a spring loaded detent to hold the lever in place. Check it out.

Ok I made it to my tractor today and took some pictures my 1510D has a positive detent in the lift up, neutral, and down positions. when the lift reaches the maximum it has an actuator that pushes the 3pt lever to the neutral position. The position of the controls for the actuator are adjustable. The first picture is with the lift arms down and the second with the arms up.

PS. I was wrong in my earlier post in that the forward actuator actually controls the down position and the rear actuator controls the up position. The double nuts and spring are the position actuator for the up position and move the lever to neutral, when the max up is reached. Mine are almost at the end of the threaded portion as you can see.
