YM1500 front end lubrication

Today before starting to mow I greased my 1500. After I did that the steering was much harder, as if you had power steering that had gone out. I then loosened the small bolts just below the zerks and grease came out under pressure. I tighten them up once the pressure equalized and the steering was much easier. My question: Should those bolts be taken out and the grease "flushed" through with a grease gun? As it is only 2WD it surprises me that there is a "drain" plug. Any advise?

Yes that is how it says to do it in my manual on my ym1401 2wd. I would assume that they are very similar models.

I had to go look see. And yes my YM1700 has a couple of bolts about 2 inches under the zerks. Are these what you are talking about?? I wonder if one gets enough grease in the lower bearing though if you take them out when you add grease. Maybe some of the old time repair men, or who ever, may know the answer, I think its something we need to find out about. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yes those two small bolts are the ones in question.

Mark, Does the manual say anything more than just grease until it comes out?

All that it says is to remove drain bolt before greasing. Next to a little picture of the area. I was going to take a pic of the page with my camera but I'm having problems with the drivers.
