YM187 had a 'new and improved' transmission, so the shifter may/may not be the same.
On my first YM186D, I broke off the 3-point lever where it is welded to that rod. I had been grabbing the lever to steady myself when going over rough ground. Don't Do This!
But it was easy to weld the lever back on. I discovered the original welder had been a little over enthusiastic and had burned away half of the lever's thickness at that joint. If anyone else ever has to make this repair: I wrapped the shaft in a wet washcloth to avoid heating the o-ring. The rod remained cool to the touch.
