Hi,
I'm new to this forum but my tractor is old. I bought it used in 98 and haven't had much trouble with it until now. I was having acceleration control problems-engine would run at full throttle and when I tried to slow it down it would stall. Then it stuck at full throttle and I closed the fuel line to kill it. The throttle lever was jammed. Opening the cover where the throttle control entered the timing cover revealed pieces of parts. At this point I'm trying to remove the timing cover. Do I need to remove the fuel injection pump first? I've removed all the bolts on the front of the cover. Should it release or do I need to remove other things? (Service Manual is on order)
Is this timing cover considered part of the fuel injection system that could be taken to a deisel fuel injection repair facility or would they only deal with the pump? Do I even want to pull the timing cover? Any help would be appreciated.

I have never even seen a YM155, but from the pictures I would think you can do what you need to do by removing the pump.

I would highly recommend NOT trying this repair by yourself. In fact, do not even remove the pump. That pump has a timing which is critical to the engine running. Take the entire tractor to the diesel repair shop and they will remove, repair and reinstall the pump for you. Be sure to get an estimate for the job. It can easily exceed $1,000 because of the labor and rarity of the engine. Based on their estimate and the availability of parts you may want to start shopping for a replacement pump.

After you remove the pump, you should be able to see the extent of the damage, and that should enable you to remove the timing cover, if needed. The only timing for the pump is the # of mounting shims, (don't lose or add any). You really need a parts manual to ID the damaged parts.
