Yesterday I ran the 1610d for about 5 minutes to warm up, used the 60 inch finish mower on some grass that was not very tall for about 20 minutes and shut her down. Carefully using a towel I opened the rad cap and inserted a meat thermometer. The coolant temp was 150 degrees, outside temp about 70 degrees, gauge reading just touching the cold mark. I either have a gauge or sending unit problem. Does the operating temp I am seeing look about right-150 degrees? I know that ideal operating temp for a diesel is 180=190 degrees. Thanks for any help. Bob

That sounds about right. I think the cold mark on a temp gauge is usually 140, and it doesn't move off the mark until hotter than 140. You don't have a problem. Mine runs about 150-160 and I like it that way.

Normde2001, Thanks for your qick reply. When your Yanmar is running at operating temp. 150-160 degrees, where on the temp gauge does the needle register? Mine is almost touching the cold mark.

My gauge stays about 1/2 way between the cold and 1/4 mark. It begins to rise when mowing heavy stuff, telling me I need to clean the radiator screen. There are no #'s on the gauge, but I believe cold is 140, 1/2 is 195, and hot is 250.

Thanks, Normde2001 for the reply. I am going to work my 1610d really hard this w/e to see if I can get the gauge off the cold mark. If not I guess a new sending unit is in store. Where would one get this item? From Hoye or Lens or from a parts house? How much are they? Thanks Bob
