i have a 169d, wish it looked as good /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif it is a great tractor. despite only being 16hp, it definitely can pull its weight...

Well, i'm looking for some advice. I need to become a single tractor owner (for the time being, i hope). I have a 1601 with a FEL (rebuilt re-con no doubt) and a 169, no FEL. The 1601 has 3.5 more HP, is heavier and handles some of my larger projects... The 169 doesn't have the loader, has about 1000 hrs and is in fair condition. I occassionally do heavy work (moving stone, grading, etc.). Which would you keep?

oh yeah, to refresh you all: the 1601 is the guy who never can get started when it's 10F, the 169 sleeps under a tree and tarp and always gets up in the AM!! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

For me, a tractor is pretty near useless without a loader. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Maybe neither.... If one don't start and one don't have a loader!!! Maybe you need a new one.....I got to say that if I leave my 2210 out in the cold it won't start either... Too much compression for the little starter motor.... I thought of having the starter rebuilt but I think it is in good shape. I think they are just that way. I gotta warm it up above freezing to get it to go.... and that is with using the thermostart and the decomp lever.....The thicker the oil in it the warmer it needs to be to start....I may get around to installing some sort of block heater but my heater /tarp system works good.. I always think of the old John Deere R's
with the little gas pony motor used as a starter.. I think one could rig up a modern day elec starter motor to start these or the old Yanmars. Elec motors have gotten so much better over the years....
