YM1700 Hard Steering

My YM240 has that mysterious wire coming out halfway up the steering column and going nowhere. Maybe they use this column on something with a horn?

You are correct. That steering tube is used on a couple models that have a steering wheel horn button. The YM336 is one I think. The models without the horn button are left with the wire poking out and nowhere to go.

Another great mystery of the Ym240/2000 solved or should I say our suspicions confirmed as to why we have a random wire there.

On the gear box if it's full of water he's wasting his time. And on top of that It's going to take some time for the oil to get through the # 8 bearings If it even will. The # 10 plug is easy! A ****** could remove it and the put the correct amount of oil in it. You may not even have to unloosen the tank. 2 Hold down Straps?? And if the gear box is full of water you can at least remove it. Suck it out with a baster. I just don't get it? loosen the dash even. Just dying to F something up.. Wow!!! I need to write a whole chapter on this one so it sound good apparently...........Yanmar steering shaft repair........

Not really comparable but I got the parts and rebuilt the steering box on my first YM186D - the one without loader that I had before. That was a waste of time, there was still so much wear that I couldn't adjust the severe slop out of the steering. I tore it all down a second time and bought Hoye's rebuilt box. That worked fine.

My suggestion if money isn't critical, is just buy the Hoye replacement steering box and get the tractor back to original quality without a lot of grief.

being full or water means that the upper and lower bearings are worthless, and the ball nut on the steering shaft is worthless. Best bet is to by a new one from these guys.
