Well back at it again... Thanks to the thepumpguysc the fuel pump is now pumping like it should (when I have the fuel rack disconnected from the governor). I noticed that when I have the governor linkage connected to the fuel rack that it only moves maybe a 1/8" in each direction. when I disconnect the rack linkage it moves a good 1/2" each direction and the fuel pumps out as it should. Seems like I will be taking the front end a part to inspect the governor and why the linkage is not moving as it should. Maybe this is what led to the pump turning into a POS. Any tips on removing the front end to get to the governor? Man this has turned into a job for the winter and not the summer!

Thanks!

Don't know it will help you much but a picture and short instructions on governor shown in I&T manual covering the 195 (close to your 1700)

If you decide to remove the gear cover I suggest you buy one of these manuals. If your mechanical savvy you might not need it.

The linkage had nothing to do w/ the pump being in the shape it was in.. THAT was totally done by human hands.. Lol
Glad she pumps for ya BUT.. have you TRIED to start it w/ the linkage hooked up?? or did you just try to see if it would pump..??
You might be trying to push against the flyweights & springs with your hand on the rack.. the centrifugal force on the flyweights of the engine running, will move the rack.. just be prepared to shut it down quick if things go bad..
Good luck.. TPG

Thanks for the manual screen shots... As for the linkage, I am going to try and start it with the linkage disconnected because with it connected it doesn't allow the fuel to flow which means it wont start. Hope to have some time this weekend to work on this POS, as I only had a few minutes on Monday to hook everything up and run a quick test. Still amazes me that the pump was in the condition as it was since this thing ran and then was parked for 2 months and then never started back up. I assume the previous owner must of tried to work on the pump if it was a bad as thepumpguysc says - which I know had to be the case as it didn't pump like it is now :)

Thanks again for the advice.
