I'm looking for a new fuel cap for my YM2000. I would like a vented cap with a fuel level indicator on it. Has anyone seen one or know where I could find one? Thanks.

Hoye sells the ordinary caps. I replaced mine, and also the strainer that belongs under the cap but is often discarded by the time we see these 25 year old tractors.

That solved my problem of fuel starvation caused by no venting.

Is the strainer the peice that allows the tank to vent? If so, I need to get one. Thanks.

no, If I understand it correctly, the right cap will allow for venting. The pre-screen filter just filters "junk" from getting into the tank. Get a new cap and a tank screen. -art

Thats what I orriginaly thought. but I dont see a way for it to vent,I've just been leaving the cap loose.Still under warranty though, I'll get it straight before then. Thanks.

Actually, on both of my Yanmars, the strainer is what allows venting. The strainer fits inside the filler hole with a lip which extends over the edge of the filler. The strainer has one place where there is a slot in that lip. The cap has a rubber gasket for sealing, and it seals everywhere except where that slot is.

Great, that sounds like the problem I'm having. I'll get a strainer and rig something else up for a fuel gauge. Thanks againg.

Here's what the strainer looks like.

Real simple fuel gauge: I have a 1-AAA Mag-lite on my tractor keychain for looking into the tank.

huh, sorry, I did not know that. What happens without one of the strainers in place within the fuel tank? One of my tractors currently does not have one but I don't notice any problems/issues. Wrong fuel level indicated? Thanks.

Well, from my experience withought the strainer. I have to leave the cap loose or it will build a vaccuum in the tank and starve for fuel the longer it runs. I also noticed that durring the day of course pressures will change as will the displacement of the tank /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I have been leaving ine loose and not filling it completely until I found a vented cap. Now that I know for sure that the vent is in the strainer. I will get one.
