I was refering to mainly the folkes behind the counter.
No question about that! I went to Autozone for an oil filter, for my Ford Focus. The first and then the second one they sold me, were incorrect. Actually the lookup book was ambiguous.

But the previous oil change, I went to what I thought was a Real Mechanic. Until he insisted that all Focuses have six cylinder engines. I think in the US there are nothing but four cylinder Focuses. After he popped the hood he shut up. I haven't gone back.

But hey, we're pulling Etractor's thread offtopic.

Etractor, I'm glad you found a good shop!

I was refering to mainly the folkes behind the counter. Now days you have to tell them what color it is , How many doors it has, 2wd or 4wd etc, etc,. & & if the engine wasn't the one that came in the car . you can forget it. Example>>>Had a drag car once 440ci in a dodge dart. try to buy a freeze plug for a 440 ci engine for a 1969 dodge dart. doesn't matter all 440 freeze plugs are the same . in their computer A 440 ci in a 1969 dodge dart don't exist

oh yea when you modify something parts guys never have a clue. I had a suzuki samauri with all kind of crazy mods to it. Like 85 toyota axels, 16valve sidekick motor.
Oh the funnest one i had was when I lifted a 73 vw thing. Really beefy crazy looking car. I went in for a safty inspection at my normal shop and there machine was down so I went to jiffy lube. the guy there said his lift would not be able to pick it up!! He thougth it was a hummer or something like that! I explaned that it is the same weight or less than a old vw bug around 2000 lbs. He still said it was too heavy. He said this while I was looking at a Chevy Suburban sitting on the lift! LOL! the guy had no clue. I just left and went someplace else.
It seems when you find a good person that knows something they are never there long. Oh well, i guess that is why i do things myself most of the time.
Of couse the 2006 town and Country goes to the shop. Sideways V6 motors are a pain.
On another note, I am dealing with a Bad AC coil in my home and prices some people give me are all over the place. Makes me want to go to the local community college just to take HVAC repair so I can do it my self!:D

I got a Datsun 510 alternator and regulator and put on mine. It's been working great for about 2 years, at a cost of around 38.00 for both if I remember right.

Do a search in this forum and you'll find the details.

Erick,
I'am in the A/C business. So, I kinda know what you are talking about. Some advise. If you are going for replacment. Replace the condenser ( out side unit ) as well & opt for a 410 A system. If you install a new A coil & your condenser goes in a few years you will have to buy a new inside coil again 1 that will match up to R410 specs. Production of R22 is comming to an end & the price for it is going through the roof. Most states just going to school to learn about A/C isn't enough. You have to be state certified & also certification to buy refrigerant

thanks for the advice Kenmac, my 8 year old coil died on my ac/gas pack split unit up stair in my house. The old unit is a 2 ton that really should have been a 2.5 ton and 10 sear. going with a 13 sear 2.5 heat pump and coil hooked up to my existing gas unit. dual fuel! I wish i could afford to go to geothermal but way to expensive now.
thanks and now back to regular programing.

I'am not talking about geo. system. Like I said. I'am in the bus. & it is to expensive for me to do it even at cost. Just make sure the installer installs a R410a refrigerant system in your house & not the old R-22 type system
