I received my new piston, rings and head gasket today and installed them.
Put all the fluids in and sat there ready to start the tractor and do an initial break in.
I pulled the thottle back half way released the valves to let the oil pressure build, then I let it loose and all I got was little tiny puffs of smoke. Man was I irritated. Then I realized I had only hand tightened the fuel lines going to the injectors (doh). I tightened them up and tried to the sequence again.
Sucker fired right off.
It seems to have fixed the problem.
Just a side note, the guy I bought the tractor from must have broke the piston in the install, the idiot also put the head gasket on upside down blocking two of the water passages. The bolt on the head seemed very easy to untighten also (I am guessing he did not use the correct torque settings).
