I don't know what RTFM means, but I'm done.
Norm - it means read the (funny) manual. An old tech term, and relevant in circumstances like this. Much used by Help-Desk techs, at least under their breath.

I have all of the manuals, I just thought asking questions in a forum would be more beneficial and useful. Perhaps we could just change the forum title to read, Don't Post, just RTFM and have a nice day.
Saint, one of the twin rubber cushions under the seat is shown in this old post:
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/yanmar/86500-all-us-yanmar-owners.html#post967227(source - YM240 manual - which you apparently have).
I think you can buy the cushions from the Yanmar parts guys who post here. An alternative I've seen posted here is to replace them with valve springs.

A little background on the culture here: You have the best-documented model of any of the gray market Yanmars. (and I have its US twin which is where your english-language manuals come from). Others are having a hard time getting info on simple stuff that you and I can look up easily.

We all have new-user questions, I certainly posted my share a few years back. But you will probably get a more useful response if you post questions in the form 'I looked in my manual and still have a question....'

Anyhow welcome to the family of Yanmar owners. These are great tractors. Enjoy!

But California, I still contend that only him, looking at his tractor, with a funny parts manual in hand, can tell what parts are missing.

Thanks, Cali. ;)

Norm, I thought you were done with this thread? Yeah, I just got finished disassembling my entire tractor and I found a couple extra bolts and a rat nest in the lower radiator hose. I didn't see that in the manual, so I guess I figured out that must have been an after-market option.

BTW, my parts manual is in Japanese, so maybe next time when I am down at the local eatery, ordering up my WangChunDog, I will ask the waiter to translate, heck maybe his grandfather in Vietkong rebuilt my tractor. He probably stole my rubber cushions off my tractor to send to the Jane Fonda's freedom fund campaign.

At least I would have been using my manual to the fullest and not asking any questions! ;)

As are virtually all of the parts manuals for the grey market Yanmars. There may be one or two models that have had their parts manual translated into English, but if there is, I don't know about it. But...there's a lot I don't know.

If you can't read Kanji, best you can do is just look through the pictures until you see something that looks familiar. At least they do use Arabic numerals, so the part numbers are legible, even to those of us who are Kanji impaired.

I allways put draw bar on if I don't have an implement on. This keeps the arms in. Those outside chains will tighten and keep your arms from reaching the tires when you have an implement...or draw bar on. I hope this helps. I think this is what your original message was. I beat my 3pt arms and tires up until I figured out how the 3 point is suppose to work and there is still more about I bet I could learn.....

HI!

On my YM2000, the chains are on the outside. I tried to tighten them (turnbuckle) to stop the same problem as you are having but found them frozen by rust and hardened grease. A bit of torch heat and they came loose so I totally unscrewed them and greased them well. Proper tension on them stopped the tire hitting.

I also had rotted/missing rubber bumpers on the seat bottom. Two 2X4 scraps screwed to the bottom gave me the valve clearance I needed, as well as the needed stability in the seat. Ride is a bit rough but it works. Old car valve springs sound like a good idea.

It is a GREAT workhorse tractor so enjoy and use the heck out of it! :D

Simple fix was to rotate the bushhog implement pins around to the inside and bring my sway arms to the inside. Works perfectly now, no hitting the tires, lifts great and cut perfectly. BTW, it handles the 5' Howse cutter with ease, I am not sure what the problem was before. I assume I was losing so much time and energy dealing with the sway chains and tires issue....Oh well, all fixed now.

:D

That's good to hear!

Don't mind the peanut gallery here. They mean well but can occasionally be a rough audience when you least expect it. At least the quality of their collected wisdom makes up for it.

In particular don't ever post suggesting I need to paint my tractor, that brings them ALL out of the woodwork!:D :D :D Just watch now!
