ym226d hydraulic issues?

Smooty, I have the same problem when my fluid gets hot. It will hardly lift a bucket of dirt or gravel. I use the recommended fluid. JD 303. I may change to transmission fluid and, see if I get better results

This problem seems to crop up every winter, and the best aolution I have read about over the years, (especially recommended by Tractor Ernie), was to switch to ATF, (Dexron).

But the guy lives basically in the Charlotte NC region, this is by no means a clold climate. We did have a few cold nights this last week but it was still in the high 50s or 60s in the day. There should not be a cold related issue...yet!!!

When my ym2000 had a bad valve on the 3pt it was letting fluid bypass it and constantly was running and overheating the fluid and when Hot i was like Kenmac and would loose lifting speed and ability.

But yours it not working till warm so that fix is a non issue?

I can't tell any ill effects with my 2002d in 30 degree weather with the traveler or Super tech brand transmission/hydraulic fluid. At 0 degrees might be a different story. Just my opinion.

Yea, sorry for the confusion, I guess 30 degrees isnt cold to some of you guys..ha..chilly here..anyway. I currently have coastal hydro/trans jd303 in it, my other yanmars used same fluid and no issues even in the 20's.

I dunno, i'll change the spin on filter first, then if no better, install a fitting to test the pump pressure.

i have used Accell brand, Travelers , and whatever the house brand that Agrisupply carries (all JD303 spec) and none of them are that slow on a 30F morning or 40F for that matter. They are thicker and a bit slower but still will instantly lift a 500lb disk. You dont really notice it though its not that much slower.

The fluid is thick enough to turn the pto with just the fluid friction and current of the gears spinning when cold though without the PTO engaged and NO implement hooked up. So in other words just the pto stub shaft spins just the slightest bit.

The fact that you hear the pump making a noise sure sounds like either a restriction or weak pump, You stated you found shavings in the fluid, another thing you said that Leeds me to believe there might have been a problem even back before you own the tractor, Is " it look like a new filter installed, Some people would change it as routine maintenance, But in this case it could have been an effort to troubleshoot a problem, I agree with the others who stated need to check the hydraulic pressure cold/warm before doing anything else, It's evident the pressure is not there,

Could the loader valve be bad? its a cheasy one anyway, i assume factory? its the type that has the lynch pin holding the stick to the control..it dont have a rubber boot etc. I been wanting to replace it anyway, what is a affordable loader valve people use on these yanmars?

If I remember correctly you have the Buhler 195, The same as I have, if the control valve is the same, ( a 2 spool valve with single stick ) I haven't had a problem with mine, but you have brought up something to consider looking into, maybe the control needs some adjustment, maybe the valves are not opening all they way,

DeepNdirt, my YM2210 had the Buhler 195, recently sold..now that loader was very responsive, immediate actually..kinda miss it but I needed the 4WD of the YM226 which has a yanmar brand yfl800 loader..I will take a pic of the loader valve, its a crappy design imo.
