I had the same thing happen when I replaced the front bearing on my YM 2000. It all depends on how you put the top link on the front knuckle assembly. There are steering stops on it and you have to set accordingly. Mine was really bad when I put it back together. I then had to take it apart and re align. I works great now. It turns equally both ways.
