YM240 Fuel in Oil?

There is internal seals in the pump but there best left to a deisel shop to rebuild. There is a gasket or sealant probably where it mounts on the block but thats to keep oil in not fuel out. The problem is internal leaking from plungers im sure. Like norm said shut fuel off, worst thing is you may have to bleed your lines before you start. If you know the right process to do this is no big deal.

No concern about bleeding . Have been shutting off fuel when finished for the day for 12 years for that reason, never had to bleed.

if the fuel runs out of the pump through a leak in the pump there will be air in there right? your stopping the flow from the tank so how can it not have air if the tiny bit runs out of the pump/line while it sts?

If you have leaky injectors. Turn the fuel back on , let it set for a few,and it will self bleed

Thanks guys, I'll probably run it this summer by shutting the fuel off and fix it right this winter. An injector pump isn't as much as I feared it would be. Sadly I do know the bleeding procedure, as much as I hate to admit it I've run it out of fuel more than once.

You got me. . . mine has not leaked since I started shutting it off. Something to do with pressure I reckon.

I'll resurrect this old thread just to provide the resolution since I just now remembered I never did! So I had been using Normde2001's advice and had been shutting of the fuel every time I got finished using it (only 3-4x a year) and then changing oil/filter when it got thin but last winter I finally got it fixed. The pump was more than I wanted to tackle myself but luckily a new pump/injector shop opened up in town last year so they were kind enough to do the whole job. I will say they were not used to Yammer Hammer, they first thought something was broken inside but when I said they all sound that way they started diagnosing. They first thought it was the pump as well but took it off and tested it and it was fine so they checked both injectors, initially he thought both of them were fine as well but pressure started bleeding off an injector and he noticed a crack in a copper shim or busted o-ring or something so he rebuilt both injectors. I can tell you this thing had only been running on one cylinder for a long time! I hooked it up to the tiller after I got it home and what used to drag the tractor down and almost kill it, will now go through w/ no effort whatsoever. So just a word of caution to maybe check your injectors before replacing or rebuilding the injector pump.

Not understanding how diesel got in the crankcase through the injector? :confused3:

Maybe I misunderstood but that's what I thought he said - I'm not an engine expert. Maybe it washed past the rings in the cylinder?
