YM2610 parked - no start - no power with key and clutch for light on gauges

The thermostart is inside the manifold. Here is some good pictures of a John Deere 850 manifold, I think just like yours. Wondering if that hole is threaded for some reason. Just don't seem right for that large of a hole to be left open. https://www.ebay.com/p/561262320

WOW. Nice find. Looks like I'll need to put a bolt in that hole. The question being, is it really an M8. When the temps get back in the 30s, I have enough spare bolts in metric to figure it out or look thru the JD850/905/1050 manual or the YM2610 parts manual too.

Yes, it's very odd for that hole being left open there. :confused2:

The manual shows the two nuts holding the manifold on as M8 for what that is worth.

And I did find an image of a YM2500/YM2610 with this funny slotted sheet-metal piece. It's possible this used that location to bolt on. :2cents:

This sheet-metal part was not on my tractor from Fredrick's when I got it.

It's not illustrated in the parts manual, and not knowing Japanese, it could be in the Parts Index at the end of the manual.

The smaller slotted sheet-metal piece on the other side is shown in the manual. Weird I guess.

The JD850 has no extra funny sheet-metal piece, but there is something in that hole as an engine ground to the radiator frame of the tractor. Did John Deere believe they needed a ground for the thermostart device there? ...

Look for (13) for the one end of the rod back to the weep hole problem I have.

I don't know what the hole is for but I would plug it with something even if just a wooden plug.

Well, the engine does get hot. Wood would disintegrate quickly. :ashamed:

Knowing engine temps rise over time as it's used, I dug in my box-of-bolts and laid out every M8. There were a few picks, but the socket-cap is known to be more heat resistant than a low grade 3 or a spare I had off of a Dish Network roof mount.

It's all plugged now.

I looked at the radiator metal frame. It does have the holes and the welded on threaded nuts just like the John Deere images. Funny these are not used. Further up that same metal frame are 2 more holes for the JD850 overflow coolant bottle mount.

It's 23F, sunny and real-feel is 16F. Put the straight blade on her for winter use. If I was in Nashville, she would have the mower till mid-January.

Went back to the early days when I got the YM2610 home and took some pixs. That hole was there all along!

So, for 6 years, weeping of intake air with no filter got into that manifold. :duh:

As I made mention in the other thread, Glad you have a knack for details !!!
